Why Plattsburgh

We are Plattsburgh

A gem nestled between the majestic Adirondack peaks, Lake Champlain, Montreal and New York State’s Capital Region. Home to over 100 well-known national and international companies in the retail, restaurant, manufacturing, and service industries, and more than 700 local businesses.

The Town of Plattsburgh has flourished due to our strategic placement along major transportation and trade corridors, and our proximity to Montreal, QC.  Our commercial core is centered on the intersection of NYS Route 3 and Interstate 87, locally known as the Northway. Also located on a major north-south railway, and the home of Plattsburgh International Airport, the opportunity for connectivity is significant.

The Town of Plattsburgh does not shy away from complexity. In fact, we have significant experience with large-scale development. In the last 5 years alone, the Town of Plattsburgh has reviewed and approved more than 2.6 million square feet of new commercial/industrial development, more than 300 units of Multi-Family Housing, and more than 150 single-family homes. In a Town with a resident population that just tops 11,000, these are significant numbers.

Experience matters.

Our planning and zoning team represents more than 100 years of experience in Planning, Zoning, Code Enforcement, Engineering, and Construction. This level of experience and professionalism has allowed us to usher in major development and secure significant investment for not just the Town, but the entire region.

A Small Town with Big Impact

The Plattsburgh economy serves 300k+ North Country residents in addition to thousands of visitors from around the world.

Clinton County generates over $600 million in retail sales, with a significant majority coming from Plattsburgh’s commercial core.

Room to Grow

Plattsburgh is open for business: Our 2,000 acre Town Center is home to the busiest commercial corridor north of Albany, with over 320 businesses, 5000 jobs, and over 36,000 vehicle trips per day. With that said, we still have the capacity to grow tenfold with over 1000 acres of land available for your next project.

Here at the Town of Plattsburgh, we take a proactive and collaborative approach to development. We have laid the groundwork for growth by modernizing our zoning, investing in our infrastructure, and building a professional network of staff and partners. In the last decade, our community has invested over 26 million dollars into planning and infrastructure to support projects like yours.

With 130 years of combined experience in development, my team at the Town of Plattsburgh is here to help you every step of the way as you consider your investment in our Town Center.

As the economic engine of New York’s North Country and Montreal’s American Suburb, we are well positioned to take on your project.

The Town of Plattsburgh has helped advocate for our continued development, which has led us to grow 8x in the past few years and help our local businesses and community.
Since we started South Junction Enterprises in 2017 the Town of Plattsburgh has always encouraged and supported the growth of our transloading railyard. The award of a 1.4million grant for phases of continued development will provide our businesses and community the needs to keep Plattsburgh businesses thriving.
